Results of hole-filling: (left) previous in-painting, (right) proposed depth based in-painting
Depth image-based rendering (DIBR) is generally used to synthesize a virtual view in free viewpoint television (FTV) and 3D video. One of the key techniques in DIBR is how to fill the holes caused by disocclusion regions and wrong depth values. In this paper, we propose a new hole-filling method using depth-based in-painting. The proposed method is designed by combining the depth-based-hole-filling and in-painting. From the experiments, we confirm that the proposed hole-filling method provides better rendering quality objectively and subjectively.
