Abstract:

This paper introduces an HDD recording system that employs MPEG-2 to H.264/AVC transcoding to achieve efficient storage of broadcast streams. Novel transcoding techniques are presented and several system design issues are addressed. Experimental results show that high quality video could be maintained with the proposed system.
