Abstract: This paper reports on our research on developing the abil-ity for robots to engage with humans in a collaborative conversation. Engagement is the process by which two (or more) participants establish, maintain and end their per-ceived connection during interactions they jointly under-take. The paper reports on the architecture for human-robot collaborative conversation with engagement, and the significance of the dialogue model in that architecture for decisions about engagement during the interaction.
