LAUNCHES CONCORDIA MOBILE AGENT FRAMEWORK
New Framework Delivers Programming Tool
for Creation of Java-Based Distributed Software
Applications
WALTHAM, Mass., January 19, 1998 *
Mitsubishi Electric Information Technology Center America
(ITA) today is unveiling Concordia, a
new technology framework designed for the creation and
deployment of mobile agent programs.
Concordia's Java-based framework is
ideal for programmers who develop software applications
for industries such as sales force automation, utilities,
health care and electronic commerce. The technology also
is well suited to deploying applications that interface
with multiple platforms or small platforms such as
personal digital assistants (PDAs), smart phones, pagers
and information appliances.
Concordia enables mobile agent
applications to move about networks efficiently to
perform automated functions on behalf of users, such as
collecting information, processing data, executing
decisions or delivering information. With this framework,
mobile agents can perform these tasks quickly and easily
at the data source, reducing congestion within a network.
John Harrell of Mitsubishi Electric
Information Technology Center explained, "Concordia
is an ideal framework solution for enhancing existing
legacy applications so they can interact with
client-server applications. Concordia also provides
developers with the ability to run automated programs or
agents, especially those involving wireless
communication, mobile communication or disconnected
computing. "The framework's Java-based environment
enables mobile agents to be highly portable, provide
highly secure communications, and support disconnected
computing, including over public networks," he
continued.
Concordia is compatible with Windows 95,
Windows NT, Unix operating systems and any network using
TCP/IP protocol. Concordia is available immediately.
Complementary Concordia evaluation and academic kits, as
well as licensing information, are available through the
ITA Web site: http://www.meitca.com/cgi-bin/ConcordiaRequest.
Headquartered in Cambridge, Mass., Mitsubishi Electric
Information Technology Center America (ITA)
researches and develops new client/server systems,
advanced multimedia applications and multimedia software,
as well as computer communication and visual systems.
Concordia is developed and supported by ITA at its Horizon Systems
Laboratory in Waltham, Mass.
