I joined MERL in January of 2005. My main research interests lie in the gray area of building things that have the mind of their own, but nevertheless are simple to use and interact with. I have done a lot of work in Computer Vision, Machine Learning, Data Mining and such. In particular, I am interested in dynamic observations - video sequences, sounds, gestures, actions and events. And just to narrow it down a little more - call it "on-line" and I am all there!
I received an MS degree in EECS from the State Academy of Air and Space, Russia, in 1992, MS in Media Arts and Sciences from MIT in 1998 and PhD from the MIT Media Laboratory in 2001. In the time following my graduation before joining MERL I worked for Honda Research Institute, US. I also hold a visiting appointment with MIT department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences. For the past 3 years I co-taught a graduate course on pattern recognition for machine vision at MIT.
