    Prior to getting his Ph.D., Bob worked for 11 years at Philips Research Labs in NY on HDTV, scalable video streaming, video surveillance, and VLSI rapid prototyping. His current research interests are video coding & communications, and video, image & signal processing. He is an active participant in video coding standards.

  • Internships with Bob

    • MM1012: Point Cloud Compression

      MERL is seeking an intern to work on new methods for coding and compressing 3D point clouds. The ideal candidate will have relevant expertise in computer graphics representation and compression, lossy or lossless image/video compression, familiarity with point cloud data related to mobile mapping and laser scanning, as well as experience with existing compression standards such as HEVC or H.264/AVC. Candidates at or beyond the middle of a Ph.D. program are encouraged to apply.

    • MM1109: Compression for remote sensing

      MERL is seeking an intern to research and develop methods for compression of remotely sensed data and images. The ideal candidate would have a solid background related to image or signal compression, signal processing, and/or information theory. The applicant should also have experience with programming in at least one of C/C++, MATLAB, or Python. Experience with remote sensing data processing, such as SAR image formation, is a plus, as is familiarity with distributed coding, compressive sensing, entropy coding, and quantization.
