Standards Contributions: Active participant of MPEG since 1997 contributing to the development of MPEG-4, MPEG-7 and MPEG-21 standards. Served as editor and chair for Part 7 of the MPEG-21 standard (ISO/IEC 21000-7), Digital Item Adaptation. Currently serving as editor for extension of H.264/AVC on multiview video coding.
Professional Activities: Serve in various capacities for several IEEE conferences, including conference chair for ICCE 2006 and tutorials chair for ICME 2006. Associate Editor for IEEE Signal Processing Magazine. Chair-elect of TC on Multimedia Signal Processing of the IEEE Signal Processing Society. Served on the AdCom of the IEEE Consumer Electronic Society. Guest editor for several special issues, including Universal Multimedia Access in IEEE Signal Processing Magazine, and MPEG-21 in IEEE Transactions on Multimedia.
Project Leadership: Team leader at MERL from April 2002 to April 2007 responsible for research and development in the area of video compression and transmission. Promoted to Group Manager in April 2007 with added responsibility for team of researchers working on speech recognition and voice interfaces. Direct contribution to the transfer and development of several technologies to Mitsubishi products.
